SalemMassDining News:
You can't beat Salem when
it comes to variety of dining establishments. Two new cafés
are opening in April 2010.
The
Green Land Cafe
is opening up Washington Street near city hall. From their web site they
describe their restaurant as “A unique café…with a passion for food.”
They will have natural raised beef, produce from small farms,
handcrafted New England cheeses, artisan breads and fresh Gloucester
day-boat fish. Sounds good, doesn't it?
The
Coven Cafe
is opening at 281 Essex Street in April. From what I hear, the owner is
a great pastry chef and will bring to Salem some fantastic baked goods.
They will also feature meals-to-go and more. I will add more info in the
next day or so, so come back.
The
Lyceum Bar & Grill
is now open after some major renovations. It features a great new bar
area and a great new menu. Make sure you check them out!
Sonoma, at 75
Congress Street is opened and looks very promising to be another
hip place to eat like its predecessors at the same location - the
infamous "Love Noodle" & "Red Raven" restaurants. They feature a small
selection of worldly entrees, plus flatbread pizzas, tapas, soups,
salads and an upscale pub menu (which is served until closing, full menu
until 10pm). Open Tuesday through Saturday 5pm to midnight, and Sunday
4pm to 11pm. They also have one of my my favorite beers, Harpoon IPA at
only $4 when every place in Salem seems to be pouring them at a buck
higher. Put it on your must try list!
A new Japanese restaurant recently opened near Salem State College.
Located at 335 Lafayette Street,
Okea Grill & Sushi Restaurant
features some very good food and great prices. They offer a full sushi
and Tappan grill menu. The restaurant is
receiving some great reviews on
YELP.com. Don't forget about Salem's
other great restaurants that also serve sushi - Asahi, Fresh Taste of
Asia, and Bangkok Paradise.
Tavern in the Square
is on the corner of New Derby and Washington Streets. It is one of
the larger restaurants in Salem MA "focusing on great food & beverage,
sports, entertainment, atmosphere and outstanding service" (their words
from the web site). It opened with much fanfare and has been packed
every night. It's a wonderful time to live in Salem with all the
fantastic choices we have to dine!
Lynde Street Café
just opened and gives downtown Salem workers another option for lunch &
breakfast. They have all the standard breakfast fare, but a wide variety
of choices for lunch including homemade soups & chowders (from
scratch!). Along with the usual assortment of sandwiches and salads,
they serve grilled salmon, pork chops, pasta, stuffed peppers, etc. They
are located at 2 Lynde Street - right behind Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream on
Washington Street.
A couple of
other quick notes on NEW eateries: The
Deli House
at 48 Congress Street serves Pressed sandwiches, wraps, subs, salads and
pizza. They also have specials daily.
New York Fried
Chicken just
opened in July 2009 and has chicken with very light coating fried in soy
bean oil. They also have wings, shrimp, fish (whiting & tilapia!),
burgers and sweet potato pies.
